DignityUSA staffed an outreach table at this month’s Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR) conference. This provided the opportunity to meet with members of leadership councils of numerous communities of women religious, discuss their work on LGBTQIA+ issues, answer questions they had, talk about the work of DignityUSA, our Chapters, and Caucuses, and help them access helpful resources. Many had questions about gender identity issues and conversion therapy, so information on Beloved by God and Made in the Image of God were popular takeaways. Fr. Bryan Massingale delivered a keynote that was based on material he first presented at Dignity/San Francisco’s 50th anniversary. We were also able to attend a breakfast for LGBTQIA+ sisters and meet with representatives of Giving Voice (sisters under age 50), members of LCWR’s standing committee on LGBTQIA+ issues, and a Synod Delegate who was present. Among those who made a point of stopping by our table was Sr. Ginny Scally, a leader in the Sisters of Notre Dame community, whose brother Michael Scally was a longtime leader in Dignity Boston. Many who visited with us expressed their thanks for Dignity’s work in the communities where they serve, nationally, and globally.
