November 16 2022. The election of Archbishop Timothy Broglio as President and Archbishop William Lori as Vice-President of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) demonstrates the clear gulf between U.S. Catholics and the USCCB on many matters including LGBTQIA+ issues. Both of these bishops have troubling histories on LGBTQIA+ issues as well as other matters they have misleadingly cast as questions of religious liberty. Both have opposed marriage equality as well as workplace equity for LGBTQIA+ people. It is deeply troubling that the USCCB continues to choose leaders who advance perspectives that violate the beliefs of the majority of Catholics in the United States which can only continue to erode the credibility of the Catholic Church. These leaders promote rigid orthodoxy over encouraging the people of God to encounter one another in kinship and accompany each other in their lives and spiritual journeys and neglect to prioritize the needs of the poor the ill and the vulnerable.

DignityUSA represents Catholics committed to justice equality and full inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people in our church and society. Founded in 1969 it is the longest-serving Queer Catholic group in the world.
