Is DignityUSA (DUSA) an accepting and welcoming church for transgender and non-binary persons and does it actively oppose the Catholic Church’s (Church) teachings?

Is DignityUSA (DUSA) an accepting and welcoming church for transgender and non-binary persons and does it actively oppose the Catholic Church’s (Church) teachings?

We live in a world where gender fluidity is a prominent aspect of society. DUSA provides welcoming, inclusive liturgical, social, advocacy and educational services for the LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex) Catholic communities. It recently expanded its Statement of Position and Purpose to reinforce that inclusivity by referencing its service to and support of individuals whose gender identities or expressions do not conform to strict biological manifestations.

DUSA has a Transgender Support Caucus that is devoted to representing and advocating for the trans and non-binary communities on behalf of our chapters and national members.

DUSA, as a prophetic voice, actively opposes the Church’s proclamations and documents that deny and denigrate the concept of gender identity and manifests this in media responses and, furthermore, advocates for change on the Church’s teaching on gender identity/theology.
