THE DATELINE

QV: QUARTERLY VOICE

May 2008:
"As the Pope boarded Shepherd One for his return to Rome, I found myself reflecting on the tone of the visit, and of our work. There seemed a tenderness all around, a sense of the preciousness of faith, the woundedness of the Church, and the tenacity of hope. There was joy in recognizing how far we as a people have come, and a sense of how much we have to offer one another and the larger Church."

— Marianne Duddy-Burke
DignityUSA Executive Director

2nd Quarter 2008:
“I began to write various Bishops telling them my story. I did not demand anything. I simply told the story of my life as a gay man and the pain I felt at the Church’s discrimination.…Surprisingly, their responses to me indicated that they recognized the pain I went through to become integrated as a gay Catholic and some even admitted that they knew that the teachings of the official Church seemed harsh, even while they wanted to be pastoral.”

— Sam Sinnett, Past President, DignityUSA

pdfMost Christians would find it hard to believe that the ex-gay ministries they support often produce mental and emotional suffering for the individuals involved, but the psychological trauma endured by ex-gays is increasingly being documented in studies, articles, and films. More…
