Equally Blessed asks Bishops to Abandon Misguided Appoach to LGBT Issues

 Equally Blessed, a coalition of four Catholic groups that work on behalf of equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the church and the wider society released this statement on yesterday’s election.

Equally Blessed, a coalition of four faithful Catholic groups who work on behalf of equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the church and wider society, released the following statement in response to President Barack Obama’s endorsement yesterday of marriage equality:

 “In endorsing marriage equality, President Obama has risked a political confrontation with the bishops of the Roman Catholic Church by embracing the wisdom of the people in the Catholic pew, and we salute him for it.

Equally Blessed cites National Organization for Marriage’s racially divisive tactics in letters to Dolan, Anderson 

April 4--Equally Blessed, a coalition of four Catholic justice organizations, today called on the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, to publicly disassociate themselves and their organizations from the National Organization for Marriage (NOM).

Members of Equally Blessed, a Catholic Coalition seeking justice for LGBT people in our church and in society, sent the following letter to members of the Maryland House of Delegates on February 16, 2012.

 Dear Delegate,

As Catholics, we value our faith tradition that calls us to speak on behalf of the marginalized and create a church and a society in which all God’s children are welcomed. We are called to live together, ever keeping before us the charge to do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with our God, as called for in Micah 6:8.
