Developed by DignityUSA with the assistance of Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).
There is no question that marriage and other forms of recognition for gay and lesbian couples are tough issues for many Catholics. Happily, most Catholics want to do the right thing, both from a faith perspective and in recognition of the gay people in their lives whom they love and respect. They’re just not sure what the right thing is.
I'm young and I think I might be gay!
How have you felt when people have shouted "Dyke!" or "Faggot!" at you or someone you know? You do what you have to do to survive, right? Either retreat in secrecy and fear or throw it back in their faces. With that kind of name calling, you just know they wouldn't understand. At the heart of both reactions is a longing to fit in.
The Beatitudes of Dignity
Blessed are you, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, straight sister or brother—you are a unique and glorious reflection of God's astounding creativity and love!
Blessed are you when you dare to bring the truth of who you are into loving relationship with others—you heal and strengthen the body of Christ!
Blessed are you who challenge stereotypes and caricatures—you bring light to the world!
